I found a pattern for this pillow in Pinterest and it gave me the shove I needed to make one. I've been wanting to make one since I first saw one on PB Kids.

I've been feeling crafty today. So I made a pillow and painted a picture. I almost painted another union jack dresser too, but as I am removing from a flu, I thought it best to limit myself

(although I may end up sewing a few more pillows tonight).

I am one of those people who doesn't want to spend enormous amounts of time on a project. My rule pretty much is if I can't get it done in an hour, I won't do it. I know that's not very realistic of me. I know it's pretty much because I have a great lack of patience (especially when it comes to sewing). But it works for me and hey, I've found I often do my best work late at night when I'm not trying too hard. :)

I will say however that I am a bit smug over the time it took me to paint that picture...15 minutes. No, it did not turn out exactly how I wanted (nothing ever does) but I'm pretty happy with it and think it will be the first of a few like it.

The pillow took me a full hour. And I love it! I've been wanting to make one for some time now, and am so happy I finally did it.

Happy new year to all of you lovelies!

Sorry for my dreadful lack of posts lately. It's seems like that's all I say anymore...sorry! Life gets in the way and blogging is one of those things that must go on the back burner while I'm running kiddos to school, preparing for the holidays and recovering from one illness after another.

But I am not here to give excuses, I do indeed have some pictures to share with you all! I finally got my computer thing worked out and am now able to upload pictures. YAY!

So, quick recap of the past few months...

Fall came and it was glorious this year!

I worked on this project for my son's room

Christmas came so fast I hardly had time to decorate, but we did manage a nice little tree and some cheery decor.

Lavender Rosemary Shortbread Cookies

Merry Christmas everyone!!! Here's a little something I whipped up last night and thought I'd share with you all.

These are simply divine and would be a big hit as gifts or just for the holidays!

They are especially delightful with tea!

Lavender Rosemary Shortbread Cookies

1 cup butter softened and creamed in a mixing bowl

1/2 cup powdered sugar add slowly to butter, cream well

Mix in separate bowl

2 cups white flour

1/4 tea. salt

1/2 tea. Lavender buds

1 tea. Rosemary leaves (freshly minced)

(a delicious substitute for the Lavender/Rosemary would be vanilla bean)

Add slowly to butter/sugar mixture

Knead until a ball forms

Roll out to 1/4 inch thick and cup using what ever cookie shape desired.

Bake at 350 degrees for 16 minutes or until the edges are light golden brown. Watch closely in the last minutes to keep from over cooking.

Makes about 2 dozen cookies.

Let cool and glaze with a light powdered sugar glaze.

Lavender Glaze

1 cup powdered sugar

1/4 tea. vanilla

A pinch of lavender buds

3 T. water

Mix in blender until it reaches a very smooth "runny" consistency.

Pour over cooled cookies.

Let set and enjoy!

My recipe for hot chocolate

Yesterday I made a cup of lovely hot chocolate and it was so good I had to pass it alone to you all.
Note: this is real hot chocolate, not that weak packet stuff you buy in the store.

Melt half a cup of real milk chocolate chips in one cup whole milk. Stir until completely melted. Top with fresh whipped cream, a sprinkling of cinnamon and a dash of freshly ground sea salt. Sit back and enjoy this unbelievably good chocolate! And if cinnamon isn't your thing, replace it with a drizzle of caramel and then salt. Cheers!

Anyone still there? It's been awhile!:) If anyone is still reading this, please know that you are not forgotten. I have many pictures to share with you, I just can't load them up on my computer right now for some reason. I've been working on a few projects such as...a union jack dresser, learning to knit and finishing up the master bedroom. Hopefully things will get sorted out and I can start sharing some pictures soon!

In the mean time let, me just say that I'm rather caught up with Pinterest right now. So if you'd like to take a look at what's catching my fancy click on my "Pinterest" bar and see my pin boards.

And here's what my next big project will hopefully look like...

Yes, I'm painting my old piano, white. No, I did not want to, but after having it sit in my garage for two years waiting until I can afford to have it refinished (I try to do it myself but the fumes and dust from it made me really sick), I decided it was time to just paint it and move it in. Hopefully in time for Christmas.

I plan on trying "chalk paint". It's supposed to work on any surface, and is very low odor. Hopefully it will work. If I like it I plan on finishing a bunch of things that I would have to otherwise wait until Spring when I can paint outside.

I've been loving the darling girls applique tee-shirts that I've been seeing everywhere this Summer.

I decided to make one for Adeline and she loves it!

I wanted it to have a slightly messy, free-style look.

I didn't use any iron-on adhesive because I want the edges to fray a bit and give it some texture.

I love it and was surprised at how super easy it was to make.

I can't wait to go and get some $3.00 Wal-Mart tee-shirts and make a few more!

Here is the other chair I worked on last weekend. I used the same fabric on this one that I did on the last. I like the dark wood, but the finish on this chair was in bad shape and there was some splitting on the back, so painting it white was the perfect solution. I lightly distressed it to add a little time worn charm.

symmetry is peace

I love the colors in these two rooms. I love the richness of textures and light. I love the New Traditional decor, a style that will never out date. But mostly, I LOVE the symmetry!

I am big on symmetry. And the funny things is that this is only something I've just discovered about myself. For years I've been this way, but never understood why. Until recently. I was reading a book I picked up from the Library on decorating and quickly realized that I had something in common with the author...things need to line up. Beds must be center. She understood my need for certain things to match, yet also my hate for the outdated "matchy-matchy" look. She helped my understand why this house we live in DRIVES ME CRAZY with its layout. All of these things have one thing in common...symmetry. I LOVE symmetry and she in one sentence help me realize that this is what I am all about.

"Symmetry means peace in the home"

Yes, that's it. I get it now. I love symmetry because it brings peace to my mind. It feels balanced and restful. No need to fuss...everything is in its place.

What I've been up to...

Hello,

For the past few days I've been sewing. I don't like sewing, but I do like results and I'm thrilled with the results of these past few days...

My first slipcover! Don't look too closely, you will see MANY mistakes.:) I am hoping to make white slipcovers for some chairs I bought and maybe my couch, so this ottoman was a great "practice" run. I made it with a soft white 100% linen I bought at JoAnns'. Linen is rather spendy, so I will most likely make the other slipcovers in a white linen/rayon fabric I found or from drop-cloths.

The pillows I made with a cotton/linen blend and the big one with ruffles is a white cotton pre-stitched "diamond pattern" fabric I found in the "Fashion Fabrics" at JoAnn's and I made the ruffles and backed it in white muslin.

I'm really looking forward to getting things done and showing you all!

Miss Mustard Seed is my new FAVORITE blog. This woman is crazy inspiring! I have already found so many things on her blog that I AM going to give a try...like slipcovering two wing chairs I have (maybe my couch as well), reupholstering two antique chairs and painting a union jack dresser for the kids room. Oh, I'm so excited! I'm also in the process of rearranging the up-stairs in my house. We're turning the Master bedroom into a large kids room and turning the two smaller rooms that share a jack and jill bath into a Master suite with a sitting room. Nothing more than rearranging furniture, decorating and painting, but it's going to look beautiful when we're done...at least I hope. :) So, if you don't hear from me for awhile, you know were I'm at... buried beneath a mountain of DYI and decorating!

A bit of Christmas craftiness...

I was asked by my sweet cousin Jessica Rose Lee to share with you all some of my homemade Christmas decorations and ideas. I've just started getting things together and doing some decorating, but I'm happy to share what I do have up. So, here goes...A Homemade Christmas.

These are our Advent candles. I know it's not "tradition" to have all white, but we love them!

Also I've never been able to afford a candelabra, so I decided to buy mismatched silver plate, candle sticks at thrift shops (I paid less than $3.00 each) and group them. I LOVE this look!

The little candle "wreaths" was a decoration tip I picked up from my Mother in-law. I bought them at Michaels, I think for about a dollar each.

Here is my latest project (sorry the picture is so washed out, it was dark when I took it).

I spray painted a twig red, put it in a vintage vase (I already had) and hung little ornaments on it. I'm loving this! Total cost: nothing! I used what I had on hand. And just in case you're wondering, yes, I am one of those people that has about 10 cans of spray paint in the garage...just in case!

These little apples are one of my favorite ornaments (if I'm decorating with red), I get them at the Dollar Store each year. That's right, the Dollar Store. 6 for a dollar!

And here's the paint I used. Now I must tell you that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Rust-Oleum, Ultra Cover 2x!

It is by far the best spray paint! And I have used everything! Cost, about $3.00 a can.

These glitter decorations the children and I made last year. I went to Michaels, bought about a dozen of those little wooden cut-outs (hearts and stars). I believe they are 25 cents each. Anyway, we painted them what color we wanted (cheap craft paint), pasted them and then put glitter in a bag and did the "shake and bake" thing with them one at a time. We then let them dry, hot glued ribbon and a button on and there you go...a big glittery mess, with some pretty cute ornaments that the kids helped make.

Here's what we use (I had a 50% off coupon for this holiday set, but any glitter and paste would work. Check the Dollar Store!

I love orange clove balls. They make me think Christmas! They are very time consuming to make and unless you can buy your cloves bulk they can be a little spendy to make, but oh,so worth it. They make the house smell yummy and they last forever. A few years ago we made this one as a family. I would work on it for a time, then we'd help the children, and then my husband would take over. It took us a while, but we love it.

I made these with some sheets of craft felt (25 cents each) some hot glue and stuffing from an old pillow.

I did some hand stitching around one with some embroidery floss just for fun.

We got these at Michaels (I don't recall what they cost, but it was not much). I think there were at least a dozen in the box. We added the bright ribbon to hang them. These are the children's favorite ornament.

These ribbon roses are super easy to make. Take a wide ribbon and a needle and thread, run a loose stitch though one side. Pull tight and watch it curl up into a circle. Make a quick "holding" stitch, securing your circle in place and then hot glue a button in the center and add ribbon leafs with the hot glue.

Adding a simple bow to decorations you already have is very festive!

Add a few berries (Dollar Store again).

And a dish of nuts. It warms up the space and adds that extra touch for a homemade Christmas.

A few posts back, I posted about my love for cream colored coats! While all very lovely, they are regrettably out of my price range. So I've been on the look out for one that was not only beautiful, but also a very reasonable price. And yesterday I found one at Old Navy! This coat is even more beautiful in person! Here it is, we've finished Adeline's room! I'm sure that over the next few weeks we'll tweak things and add a few more frills that have been packed away, but for now I'm happy to be done and Adeline is thrilled! We filled her room with vintage finds and family treasures. There are things in her room from both of her grandmothers, great grandmothers and few things from her great, great grandmothers.

I still have a big beautiful Rachel Ashwell Shabby Chic braided rug to put in her room, I just can't decide where it should go...in fount of the bed (by the dresser) or beside the bed. Any thoughts, Ladies?

Roasted Peaches

This is a wonderful, super easy recipe that makes a very yummy late Summer dessert. I've made it before but didn't have a recipe, so I looked around and found a really yummy one for you at Martha Stewart.

I think I'm going to make this tonight. Enjoy!!!

Vanilla-Roasted Peaches with Raspberries

Ingredients

Serves 4

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice (from 1 lemon)

2 tablespoons sugar

1 vanilla bean, halved lengthwise and scraped, or 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

4 firm, ripe peaches (1 to 1 1/2 pounds total), halved and pitted

1 pint vanilla ice cream

1 package (5 to 6 ounces) raspberries

Directions

1.Preheat oven to 400 degrees. In a large, shallow baking dish, combine butter, lemon juice, sugar, and vanilla bean (seeds and pod). Add peaches, and turn to coat with butter mixture; arrange, cut side down, in a single layer.

2.Roast until peaches are tender and cooking liquid is syrupy, 15 to 25 minutes, brushing with cooking liquid halfway through. Serve peaches (warm or at room temperature) with ice cream and raspberries; drizzle with cooking liquid.

I've been crazy busy this week, painting the master bedroom, gutting, cleaning and organizing every cupboard/cabinet in my kitchen and rearranging/spring cleaning every bedroom in the house! We also have guests this weekend (my brother and his lovely wife) and I just found out today that we also have a last minute showing on our house a few hours before they arrive...whew!!! So, here's a little glimpse at what I should be doing right now...

Strawberry Jam...

I did something today that I am just giddy about...I made my first batch of Strawberry freezer jam!!!

I am so excited about this! I've been wanting to make my own jam since I got married 7 years ago. And now I've finally done it. 12 beautiful jars of Organic Strawberry Jam. If you've never made it you must give it a try! It took me only about 15 to make and then 30 minute to rest. So easy to make and it tastes so much better than canned jam...fresh and sweet with a tiny taste of tart! Check out the link above for the recipe I used. Enjoy!

I've been wanting to get my laundry room organized! Mine is pretty small, (about 5x7) has no natural light and is upstairs (which I thought I would like, but now HATE). So, I'm on the look out for ideas...I need the room to feel more tidy, pretty and as functional as possible.

How do you keep your's organized and what tips can you pass along???

Martha Stewart was the first place I stopped and found a few great ideas!

This is almost exactly what my laundry room looks like (minus the cute organized shelf, clothes rod, etc...)

I was thinking that instead of a movable shelf, to have built-in shelving with a built-in counter that also works as a folding table.

And last but, not least a few tips from Martha on an organized laundry room..

Whether your laundry room is a tiny closet or a spacious basement, organization is key. These 10 tips will help you make the most of the space you have.

1. Arrange products and supplies according to how you use them. Anything you regularly need should be within easy reach; place extras and incidentals on a high shelf or another out-of-the-way spot.

2. Decant detergents from large boxes and jugs into smaller containers or soap boxes; refill as needed.

3. Store small supplies in boxes or bins: Place stain-removal products in one, sewing materials in another, and sponges in a third. Have rags on hand for spills.

4. Sort whites, colors, delicates, and heavily soiled items in bins or rolling carts.

5. If you don't have room for a folding table, affix a fold-down shelf to the wall. (great idea!)

6. Keep a drying rack handy for drip-dry items.

7. Attach an ironing-board hanger to the wall so the board and iron are secure and out of the way but easily accessible.

8. Install a rod in the laundry room on which to hang clothes as you iron; or install a hook over the top of a door to serve the same purpose.

9. Keep clothes hangers and mesh bags for delicates with your cleaning supplies or in a nearby cabinet.

10. Use free space in the laundry room to store gift wrap, ribbon, basic tools, and pet supplies.

We are going to the beach...

We are going to the beach next week. We are going to meet the cousins. To a cottage by the sea called Camelot.

We are going to spend many hours walking on sandy beaches, playing in the surf and soaking up all the sunshine we can. There is a childrens room on the third story. A room big enough for all the cousins to sleep and play. There is a big yellow sitting room, for the Mommys, Daddys and Grandparents to relax, catch up and laugh. And there is a soaking tub...perhaps I shall do some soaking!

We are so looking forward to our trip to Camelot...a place to dream!

Lilacs

The lilacs are blooming! One of my favorite things about living in this little town are the lilacs. The town is full of lilac bushes. Some so big, they can only be described as lilac tress! I'm not kidding, I've seen some at least 15 feet tall! Each year in May for only a few weeks the lilacs bloom and sometimes during those few weeks when they are at their peek, the whole town smells like lilacs! It's heaven!!! Right now I have my first lilac bouquet on my table, white ones. My house smells so lovely. The scent of lilac has always been a favorite of mine. It brings back such sweet childhood memories and dreams!

I'd love to have a guest room like this someday! It is so peaceful and welcoming. I would love my guests to feel pampered and at home. One of my favorite things in the world is to have company over for a weekend!

Resurrection Sunday (Easter) traditions...

For the past few years my husband and I have been trying to establish new family traditions for Resurrection Sunday (Easter). Our hope is to make this holy day as wonderful and glorious as Christmas! We are still working through ideas, adding new ones and refining old ones. This year we've added Lenten Lights. And I think it's going to be an ongoing tradition. We started on Palm Sunday.

Here is a look at our traditions so far and how we celebrate Resurrection Sunday.

The week before Resurrection Sunday (Easter), we begin the Lenten Lights. We talk to our children about what this week means and how important it is to us. We don't decorate, except for the candles.

Then come Sunday morning, my husband and I wake up very early and decorate the house with loads of flowers, ribbons and candy. We set the table with the best china, linens, silver and crystal.

We then prepare a feast!!! Ham, croissants, chocolate dipped strawberries, honey butter, waffles with fresh whipped cream, golden oven herb potatoes and coffee. And this year we are adding as part of a new tradition a Croquembouche! I'm so excited to make this and try my hand at spun sugar!

After everything is ready we call the children to come down stairs. They come bouncing down in their jammies, glowing with excitement. It's such a fun and glorious surprise for them to see the transformation that has taken place and the table set with mounds of food. We do this to help our children understand how sobering holy week is and what a glorious transformation Resurrection Sunday is.

After we have lit all of our candles again and feasted, we give our children new outfits. This is to symbolize how we are made new in Christ and that is possible because He is RISEN! We also give them a few gifts and a basket of candy! Then it's off to church and then Dinner with family!

Well, there you have it, our Resurrection Sunday traditions (so far)! I'd love to hear what you all do, we're always looking for more wonderful ways to celebrate and decorate for this glorious holiday!

This year my sweet husband (a CNA) has to work on Resurrection Sunday, so we are going to roll with it and tweak it to fit. Instead of a breakfast feast, I will prepare all of this while he is at work and the children are taking their Sunday naps. Then when my hubby gets home (3:30) we'll start the party and have his parents over.
